Christmas is almost here!

It has been a strange few weeks for me. Lost loved ones and friends have been the norm for some reason this year. I've been in and out of the shop the last two weeks and am sorry when I've missed folks.

Remember, we have gift certificates available for those that don't know what to get their beading friend/family member. Also, there is a small trunk show with some fab beads just in as well as a new selection of beads in stock. When possible I've been busy trying some of the patterns in the newest magazines.

The shop will be closing on Thursday for Christmas and reopen on the following Tuesday. Shop now for those last minute beads and gifts.

Merry Christmas,
Sherri

November

It's been a busy week at Highstrung Beads. I had a nice class recently with some of the Embroidery Guild making Christmas Ornament covers. This was the largest group I have had in a long time. The Trunk Show is going great too. Lots of the beads have found new homes in the past week. I have even adopted a few for myself. Presently, I am working on a necklace incorporating a cab from the show. I hope to get it finished before the Mistletoe Artists and Crafters Market next week. I have several other projects in the works as well. It is hard not to be creative with all this beautiful stuff around.

If you get a chance be sure to stop by Falkner University and do a little holiday shopping. I am really excited and can't wait to see what some of our local fiber artists have created. The market is November 11 and 12th from 10:00am until 6:00pm in the J.L. Perry Bldg. NO admission or parking fees.

New THINGS!

Fall has officially begun even if it still feels like summer! I will be glad for some cooler weather, just not winter yet. Please!

I've just received a shipment of products and a few new bugle beads at the shop. I am looking for a Trunk Show to be delivered soon as well. I'm getting geared up for holiday projects and the bugles are really nice, several are twisted or spirals in metalic colors. There is also a couple of new 8/0 hexcuts. I just had to try out the bracelet in the newest B&B. I've also been experimenting with paper beads! Fun to recycle those ads and flyers instead of throwing them away.

Come by soon and check out the books and Magazines, if you haven't already. Lots of beautiful projects in these issues, including a christmas ornament.

Happy Beading!

Into September

I've been working on several new bracelets in the recent issues of Bead and Button and just received the newest issue of Beadwork! Now I have more ideas to work with. I'm still looking for some great ideas for the new crystal in the shop, and the large selection of Czech glass and firepolish.

Plans are in the works for a couple of trunk shows for the fall. Wonder what new goodies they will send us!

The holidays will be on us before we realize it. Now is the time to get to work designing and making all those new pieces for gifts and parties. If you want something special let me know and I will see if I can find it.

Happy Beading!

What's New?

I've just finished looking through the new Bead & Button magazine and can't decide what to try. There are some great projects including a new one for Christmas. They promise more of these through the next few issues too. We got in a new selection of seed beads so more colors to choose from. I hope to make another order soon as there are more needed and wanted.

How are your summer projects going? Ready to start beading for fall and the holidays? Come in soon and see what is new in the shop. There are some lovely crystal rondells in mixes that are just begging to be played with. I am trying to decide what to make with some myself!

Highstrung Beads

Well, it has been a long hot summer, and it isn't over yet. I've been trying to keep cool and beading up a storm. Just sorry it wasn't a rainstorm. There have been quite a few new people visiting the store and trying their hands at beading. The recent bead magazines have lots of great projects in them for those who love the seed beads.

The new shipment of beads came in today! I spent the afternoon pricing and getting them out. I can't wait to try some of the new little cubes and the twisted beads. I only got one type of Twisted Bugle but hope to get more in soon. Above is one of my pieces that is for sale at the gallery in Kentucky. Seed beads are my paint!

The holidays will be zooming in before we know it so start thinking about your holiday projects. If there is a special book you want, come in a pre-order it. I can't always have everything in stock but will be happy to order it if you want.

Hope to see many of you in the weeks to come.Happy Beading

Clearance sale and New Inventory just in

Hello all,

I've finished hanging all the new merchandise and separating the sale stuff. You will find new gemstone strands, pearls, Czech glass and so much more. It has been awhile since vendors have been by and I am really excited by some of the new items. One vendor brought copper bead strands and I have a few of them on the wall too. The Czech glass is in a variety of new spring and summer colors. I can't wait to try some of them myself.

There is a discount to the Trunk Show designer glass as the show is almost over. It has been a great show and there are still some of the larger, fancy cuts left. Take advantage of the discount to get some you may have wanted before.

See you soon!

New Beads!!!

It's been a busy weekend! I have had the opportunity to purchase new merchandise for two differnt vendors this past week. Lots of new glass has been added to the wall. There are new beads on the tables too, including metal, glass and other items. The glass was so hard to choosem but I think there is a great selection of spring and summer colors now available.

Come on in and check out the new stuff and find discounts on a variety of beads as well. Mother's Day is coming and she always loves jewelry!!

Spring is here!

Finally the trees are coming out of their dormant period and blooming! I love Spring and all the colors. There is lots of color in fashion this spring too. Steinmart had a variety of yellow, turquoise, coral and green in their store. I love it when fashion and season are colorful. So many years beige and white dominate the scene.

We have still have a selection of flashy, colorful crystal glass beads left in the Trunk Show. It has thinned out but there are still some chunky beads left. I also purchased a small amount of African beads yesterday. The choices he had were overwhelming. I had not seen this particular vendor before so it was hard to make decisions on what to get. He had some fabulous antique ones but just too expensive for this time. Mostly I purchased small sandcast beads, African glass Christmasbeads, and metal in the smaller sizes. Maybe I will spring for more elaborate beads next time.

Hope to see you soon!

Update on Trunk Show

Wow, I cannot believe how fast these beads are flying out the door! There is still a great selection though. Folks have ooh'd and ahhh'd over them and taken more than they had planned. The prices are great too!

All the strands are 8" and the 4mm bicones start at $1.65. The 8mm" rondells are $3.00 and going fast. There are lots of colors for spring and summer jewelry too. I need to grab a few for myself before the best ones are all gone!

Come and bead with us!!

Snowy Friday, Sunny Saturday!

I hope everyone enjoyed our brief snow "storm". It was unusual to have so much but if was beautiful. Due to the freeze last night we still have the white stuff around. The shop will be open today, as usual, until 4pm. I have been out the last day and a half and look forward to being back. I have hopes of the new trunk show coming in soon, it was delayed due to the storms on the east coast.

Keep checking back for updates on the show and other developments at the shop.

Hope to see you soon! Sherri

February! Already?

What happened to January? I think it might have floated away.

I've been working on several embroidered pieces and can't seem to move away. The material becomes my canvas and the beads, my paint. Two pieces were collars and then a pendant and a cuff bracelet joined the group. If anyone is interested in trying their hand at this, I will be happy to assist/instruct them.

I've also worked up a couple of simply simple little bracelets with the new 3 and 4mm firepolish beads. It was fun figuring out how to put them together. Now I wish I could think up a new one, as I have made several of them.

Kumihimo is also a new effort. It is really easy once the beads are strung on the cords. I've done several bracelets and a couple of necklaces using the Kumihimo disk.

Barbara Grant did a couple of classes on PMC the end of January. We had a great time making rings, pendants and other great things. Barbara is so creative and gives so much in her classes; we are very lucky to have her to teach and share with us. She has taken 3 level certifications and many special classes to perfect her techniques. It is worth the time and effort to take a class everyone can go home with something unique and personal. Hopefully, we can have another class for beginners again soon. I will post here as well as send emails. There were some pictures taken and I will upload them soonest.

January 2010

Hello and Happy New Year!

Looks like we have a slight repreve from the icy cold weather we just experienced. Today is beautiful, warm and sunny. I hope many of you are able to get out and enjoy the day.

Highstrung just received a new shipment of Czech fire-polish crystal in 3, 4, and 6mm. There are a number of projects in the recent bead magazines that use this size of beads. I've also made a cute and simple bracelet using 3 and 4 mm beads with size 11/0 seed beads. I've also picked out some other pressed glass beads too. Come by soon to check them out.

The PMC classes for Jan.30 and 31 are about full. We are really excited and ready to make something beautiful with Barbara Grant.

I am also going to try a new trunk show vendor later this month. They have lots of crystal so keep look out for the announcement of dates.

Happy Beading!

About Me

My photo
Montgomery, Alabama, United States
I've always loved jewelry and sparkly things, so when my life took a change I began considering my own shop. I started Highstrung Beads in January of 2003 and it is still going strong. The shop is now at it's third location and better than ever. I try to keep a selection of unusual items, pendants, and lots of gemstone as well as the standard bead items. I wish I could have even more beads in the shop, just like other bead lovers, there is never enough!!
